The name of this state refers to the gold mines that were there in the mid-18th century and they were exploited mainly by the Portuguese people. At that time there was also a large number of slaves who were exploiting the region. Because of this, there is a great miscegenation in Belo Horizonte (and in Brazil on the whole).

This city is also known by the initials “BH”. You can read it as “Beagá”. On today’s podcast I will speak about a few places you can visit there

Central Market of Belo Horizonte

There you will find what is perhaps the best food ever produced in Brazil. The Mineira cuisine is known worldwide and at that market you’ll find many items of them. You could search for tutu de feijão or the typical pão de queijo.

Mineirão Stadium

This is the fateful soccer stadium where Brazil played against Germany in the World Cup 2014. Despite that day’s memories we want to forget, the place remains very well maintained after the championship.

BH Bars

Belo Horizonte is a city where people usually go to the bars at night. There you can find neighborhoods that are very famous for the amount of pubs nearby, such as: Santa Tereza, Savassi and Lourdes.

In this episode’s second part, I will talk about typical expressions of this region and about their accent.

At the end of the podcast you will learn the meaning and how to use the following expressions:

  • Uai!
  • Trem
  • Trem bão
  • Cadim
