Learn about Joao Gilberto

Hello there and welcome to our Todo Mundo Pod (in Portuguese) called News about Joao Gilberto

On today’s podcast we are going to speak about some news about Joao Gilberto. Joao is considered as one of the most important Brazilian artists in history. He has created, with Tom Jobim, what today is known as Bossa Nova – a typical Brazilian musical rhythm.

Joao became famous because of the rhythm he produces by using his right hand in the guitar. Bossa nova is kind of a samba, but with a slower tempo. This “new samba” could be heard in the recording of chega de saudade launched by Joao Gilberto in the 60’s.  Since then, Joao has influenced great Brazilian artists like Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Tom Ze and others.

Gilberto was considered by the Rolling Stone magazine as the second most important musician in Brazilian history – the first was Tom Jobim.
